Dear Friend:

Welcome to ChappaquaCrossing.com where you will find the latest news and information about our plans for redeveloping the former Reader's Digest property. We recently submitted to the Town a Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) which includes a new alternative plan for the project.

The new alternative plan — also referred to as the "Modified Project" — includes important changes made in response to the Town’s desire to retain commercial space at the site, reduce the number of proposed residential units, eliminate the age restriction on home buyers and increase the amount of land donated to the Town for municipal use. For more details about the Modified Project visit The Plan section on this site.

There have been several important developments over the past year that has made it crucially important for the Town to move forward with this plan. First and foremost is the bankruptcy of Reader’s Digest and its departure from the property at the end of this year. Chappaqua Crossing is the Town’s single largest taxpayer and losing Reader’s Digest will have a significant negative impact on tax revenues for the Town and School District, which are already being strained by the economic downturn.

In another important development, Westchester County and the Federal government have agreed to a settlement that requires affluent communities such as Chappaqua to provide more affordable housing. The Chappaqua Crossing plan, which includes an affordable housing component, is a positive step in that direction.

On September 28, the Town will hold a public informational meeting about the FEIS at Town Hall. We urge you to attend this meeting and voice your support for our plan that will ensure the financial viability of the Town’s single largest taxpayer, generate much- needed tax revenue for the Town and Chappaqua Schools and create new housing for residents including affordable units.

We thank you for your support!
